Team USA Wins 16 Medals on Day 4 at the Pan American Youth and Veteran Championships

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Team USA added 16 more medals to bring its tally to 54 on Saturday at the Pan American Youth and Veteran Championships in St. Cruz, Aruba.

Fifty-nine-year-old Gladys Berardi (Long Valley, N.J.) fought down an age division and captured the gold medal in the Pre-Veteran (40-49) women’s saber event. Berardi’s gold was her second podium finish of the week and came the day after she won bronze as a Veteran 1 (50-59) saber competition. Berardi’s teammates, Claire Lee (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Monisha Tasker (Weston, Mass.) claimed silver and bronze, respectively.

Team USA claimed a trio of medals in the Pre-Veteran men’s epee competition as Creston Bailey (Escondido, Calif.) took silver and Michael LoParco (Houston, Texas) and Paul Geraci (West Lafayette, Ind.) each won bronze.

A medalist in the foil and epee events at this event in 2013, Lance Tan (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) won his first Pan Am Youth B (11-13) title in the foil competition where he led an American sweep of the medals. Evan Snytsheuvel (Irvine, Calif.) won silver and the duo of David Prilutsky (Princeton, N.J.) and Lucas Lutar (North Salem, N.Y.) claimed bronze.

U.S. fencers won gold in the day’s saber events as well. Mitchell Saron (Ridgewood, N.J.) finished first in the Youth B men’s saber competition with Robert Vidovskzy (Folsom, Calif.) and William Julien (Parkland, Fla.) earning silver and bronze, respectively.

In the Youth A women’s saber competition, Ella Greenbaum (Atlanta, Ga.) won gold for Team USA and Michelle Julien (Parkland, Fla.) matched her older brother, William, with a bronze of her own.

Jasmine Adolphe (Leesburg, Va.) added another bronze for Team USA with her third place finish in Youth A women’s epee.

Competition concludes on Sunday with the schedule as follows:
