Senior International Designated Events Strength Factors

During the 2013-2014 competition season, the maximum Strength Factor allowed for Senior World Cup and Grand Prix international designated tournaments was increased from 2.0 to 2.5

Upon receiving feedback from athletes and coaches on the change last season, the USA Fencing Sports Performance staff, in conjunction with the national team coaches, made the decision to return the maximum Strength Factor to 2.0 for the 2014-2015 season.

Per this change, which was included in the 2014-2015 Athlete Handbook posted in August, questions have arisen regarding which events will receive a maximum Strength Factor of 2.0.

All senior international designated events held in 2013-2014 that are not included as part of the selection criteria for the 2015 World and Zonal Championships (Senior, Junior, Cadet) will retain the maximum Strength Factor of 2.5 that was awarded at the time of the event. Please note: the selection period start date varies based on weapon, gender and category (Senior, Junior, Cadet). These points from last season will remain in use for the appropriate cadet, junior and senior rolling point standings until they fall off or are replaced by the replacement event during the 2014-2015 season.

All senior international designated events that occurred as part of the selection criteria for the 2015 World and Zonal Championships (Senior, Junior, Cadet) will be awarded a maximum Strength Factor of 2.0.

The current National Rolling Points for senior, junior and cadet athletes have been updated in compliance with the above policies.

If you have questions or concerns regarding the allocation of points, please contact the USA Fencing Sports Performance department at international@usfencing.org.

Senior International Designated Events Point Table

Athletes competing in senior international designated events are advised that the Senior International Point Table in the 2014-2015 Athlete Handbook has been updated. The points awarded for 33rd – 64th place have changed and are now the same values that were used in the 2013-2014 Athlete Handbook. For example, this change means that the point value for 33rd place is 142 for an event with a Strength Factor of 1.0 and 284 for an event with a Strength Factor of 2.0. An athlete placing 64th will earn 126.5 points for an event with a Strength Factor of 1.0 and 253 for an event with a Strength Factor of 2.0.
