USA Fencing will be supporting the Dallas community by providing a $1,000 donation in honor and memory of the victims of the shootings in Dallas on Thursday evening.

The tragedy in Dallas occurred at the conclusion of the penultimate day of the USA Fencing National Championships which were held at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center.

"Over the last 10 days, nearly 4,000 of our athletes and their families attended Summer Nationals in Dallas and we are thankful that all of the members of our fencing family remained safe last night. But five members of the Dallas community lost their lives and weren't able to return to their own families and seven more police officers were injured in these acts of violence," said USA Fencing President Donald K. Anthony Jr. (Columbus, Ohio) "While we were forced to cancel our final day of competition due to the closing of the venue and the shutdown of much of downtown Dallas this morning, we also wanted to show our support for the families of those who were killed or injured."

USA Fencing's donation will be made to the Assist the Officer Foundation - an organization that provides financial assistance to families of active officers who have passed away as well as assistance to officers suffering hardships, injuries, illnesses or catastrophic events. Founded in 1999, the ATO Foundation also provides confidential counseling to Dallas police officers.

If members of the USA Fencing family would like to support the victims of the Dallas shootings, donations can be made to a fund that has been created by USA Fencing by texting DALLAS to 91999 or clicking here.

"Dallas has hosted numerous national competitions in the past and our partners at the Dallas Sports Commission ensured that this year's event was well-supported by the local community," said USA Fencing Executive Director Kris Ekeren (Littleton, Colo.) "USA Fencing has benefited greatly by our past experiences in Dallas and we look forward to returning in future years. Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the atrocities of last night, but we know that the people of Dallas are resilient and will come together as they grieve these losses."
