Five-time Olympian Michael Marx.

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – USA Fencing will be offering a foil coaching clinic with five-time Olympian Michael Marx (Concord, Mass.) on January 6, 2019 from 4-6 p.m. at the January North American Cup in Charlotte, North Carolina.

A U.S. Fencing Hall of Fame Member, Marx won eight Division I National Championship titles in foil and was named the 2018 USA Fencing High School Coach of the Year.

The clinic will cover the following topics:

  • Practical teaching methodologies for fencing
  • Variety of lessons to develop students properly
  • Understanding reactions
  • Common myths and misconceptions
  • Question and answer time

A hands-on experience, coaches will be expected to come ready to teach lessons and should have all the necessary and proper equipment. To facilitate the learning process, each coach should bring a student as the course has a heavy emphasis on putting the lessons into practice. The students also must be properly equipped and attired to receive a lesson. There is no charge for the student attending the clinic.

The clinic is limited to 30 coaches and will be held in Pod Q at the Charlotte Convention Center. The cost of the clinic is $75 for USA Fencing Coach and +Coach members and $150 for other USA Fencing members.

Online registration will close at noon MST on January 3, 2019. If space is available, on-site registrations will be accepted starting at 3:30 p.m. EST on January 6, 2019 in Room 201 A/B of the Charlotte Convention Center.
