TBILISI, Georgia — The second day of the 2025 Fencing World Championships featured eight Team USA athletes: four in men’s foil and four in women’s epee.

Men’s foil kicked off the day with Nick Itkin OLY, Alexander Massialas OLY, and Bryce Louie advancing to the Round of 32. Louie marked his first senior World Championship appearance in the opening days of the event.

“It’s honestly surreal to compete at my first World Championships. This has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember, and to do it alongside athletes I’ve looked up to—now as teammates—is truly an honor,” said Louie. “Today was a tough battle, but I learned a lot and I’m ready to bring the energy for the team event!”

Massialas advanced to the Round of 16, where he faced Hungary’s Dosa and ultimately fell, 15-11.

In women’s epee, all four U.S. athletes — Hadley Husisian OLY, Margherita Guzzi Vincenti OLY, Kasia Nixon, and Tierna Oxenreider — advanced out of the Round of 64. Husisian, Guzzi Vincenti, and Nixon moved on to the Round of 16 before being eliminated.

Despite tough matches, Team USA gained valuable experience, especially for those making their World Championship debuts.

“My first Worlds was a fantastic and exciting experience. The competitiveness and intensity of senior Worlds is different from any other competition I’ve experienced,” said Oxenreider. “I’m so grateful to compete alongside such a great group of athletes and I cannot wait to see what we do in teams on Thursday.”
