(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – USA Fencing is pleased to announce a partnership with Urban Community School in Cleveland, Ohio and Leon Paul to offer fencing to elementary and middle school children in an underserved community.
The program, which began Wednesday, November 13, gives nearly 600 children the opportunity to learn the sport of fencing with 78% of the school’s families being economically disadvantaged.
Every child in elementary school will take a fencing class through their physical education program in school. Fencing will also be offered to sixth through eighth graders through an after-school program.
Leon Paul has provided 36 sets of introductory plastic fencing gear for the P.E. class and 20 sets of full foil equipment for the after-school program.
Two Ravens Fencing School, owned by Brian Stone (Strongsville, Ohio), will provide the curriculum as well as coaching to the teachers at the Urban Community School.
The Urban Community School strives to overcome social and economic barriers to success for children on Cleveland's near west side, offering a complete education that betters the student as a whole and allows them to reach their full potential.
