(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – The International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation and the International Paralympic Committee announced the amended qualification pathway to the 2021 Paralympic Games on Thursday.
The qualification period now will be extended by one year to May 31, 2021. IWAS also is currently working to reschedule the two qualification events it had cancelled in March due to COVID-19 – the America’s Championships as well as a World Cup, both of which were previously scheduled to take place in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Zonal qualifiers for the other regions also will be rescheduled.
The events are expected to be held in late 2020 or in 2021. Dates and locations for the Zonal Championships as well as the World Cup will be made available in the coming weeks.
In addition, the 2021 Wheelchair World Championships have been postponed to 2022.
