Team USA Places Ninth at Padua Saber World Cup

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – The U.S. Men’s Saber Team rebounded from a first round loss to finish ninth at the Padua Saber World Cup in Italy on Sunday.

The U.S. squad of Daryl Homer (New York City, N.Y.), Tim Morehouse (New York City, N.Y.), Jeff Spear (Wyantskill, N.Y.) and James Williams (New York City, N.Y.) lost the opening bout to France, 45-36, in the table of 16, but the team won the next three bouts to win the 9th – 16th place table.

In the next bout, Team USA defeated Poland, 45-36.

After a 45-32 win over Ukraine, Team USA edged Canada, 45-44, to finish ninth.

The win over Canada expands Team USA’s point differential over Canada in the Olympic Rankings to 21 points with one World Cup remaining on the schedule which will be held in Moscow from March 16-18.
