U.S. Men Finish Seventh at Seoul Foil World Cup

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – The U.S. Men’s Foil Team finished seventh at the Seoul Foil World Cup on Sunday in Korea.

In the first opportunity for the squad to earn team qualifying points for the London Olympic Games, the team of Miles Chamley-Watson (Philadelphia, Pa.), Gerek Meinhardt (San Francisco, Calif.), Alexander Massialas (San Francisco, Calif.) and Kurt Getz (Rye, N.Y.) earned 28 world ranking points to stay ahead of Pan Am region rival Mexico who finished 17th in Seoul.

Seeded eighth going into the event, Team USA won its first bout against Great Britain, 45-32, in the table of 16, but lost to China, the reigning World Champions, 45-41, in the quarter-finals.

In the 5th – 8th place table, Team USA lost to Austria, 45-39. The team came back in its bout for seventh place to defeat Hong Kong, 45-35.

The seventh place result is the second top-eight finish for the U.S. Men’s Foil Team this year and comes on the heels of a fifth-place finish at the Bonn World Cup in March.
