(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – The U.S. Women’s Foil Team earned its highest finish at a World Cup this season when the squad placed fifth on Sunday at the Torino World Cup in Italy.

The team included three members of the squad that will compete in Jordan in two weeks at the Junior and Cadet World Championships – Lee Kiefer (Lexington, Ky.), Margaret Lu (Greenwich, Conn.) and Nzingha Prescod (Brooklyn, N.Y.) – and well as 2010 Senior World Team member Nicole Ross (New York City, N.Y.)

Team USA defeated Great Britain in the first round, 36-24, but lost to the 2010 Senior World silver medalist Polish Team in the quarter-finals, 45-36.

The ladies recovered from the loss to win their next to bouts against Hungary, 36-31, and France, 45-34, to place fifth overall.

In individual competition, Ambika Singh (Skillman, N.J.) placed 54th on Saturday while Emily Cross (New York City, N.Y.) finished 63rd.

Both Singh and Cross advanced through the pools and preliminary tables on Friday, but Singh lost to three-time World medalist Aida Mohamed (HUN), 15-7, in the table of 64 on Saturday. Cross drew 2008 Olympic silver medalist Hyun-Hee Nam (KOR) and lost, 15-9, in the opening round.
