US Cadet Jessie Radanovich (Mountain Valley, Calif.) struck silver at a European Cadet Circuit competition held in Switzerland October 2-3, and teammate Jessica O’Neill-Lyublinsky (North Salem, NY.) earned a bronze.
Radanovich earned her way into the final eight through the “back door” after losing a bout late in elimination rounds. Once in the quarterfinals, Radanovich beat second-seeded Sara De Alti of Italy 15-12, and then beat Alona Komarov of Israel in the semifinals.
In the final, Radanovich lost the gold to Daria Strelnikov of Israel.
O’Neill-Lyublinsky also struggled her way back to the top eight through repechage. IN the top eight, she unfortunately faced US teammate Nina Van Loon (Boulder, Colo.) and won that bout 15-10, but then lost her next to Strelnikov 15-11. Van Loon finished 8th, also an excellent result in a cup that was packed with strong Italian and Israeli fencers. In all, seven US cadets reached the top 16.
