(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – After winning bronze in Lyon in February, Jackie Dubrovich (Riverdale, N.J.) made her second Junior World Cup medal of the year a gold one on Saturday at the Foil Junior World Cup in Bratislava, Slovakia.

The Columbia sophomore and three-time Junior World Championship team medalist went undefeated in the pools to earn the 10th seed in the direct elimination tables and a bye into the table of 64.

Dubrovich won her opening bout against Aarya Berthier (SIN), 15-4, and defeated Flora Pasztor (HUN), 15-8, in the table of 32.

In the table of 16, Dubrovich earned a 13-4 victory against Ekaterina Petrova (RUS).

Dubrovich was one of three Americans to reach the quarter-finals as two of her former Junior and Cadet World teammates both placed in the top eight.

Sabrina Massialas (San Francisco, Calif.), a silver medalist at the 2013 Cadet Worlds, advanced to the quarters of a Junior World Cup for the first time, but lost the bout to Viktoria Alexeeva (RUS), 15-12.

Sara Taffel (New York City, N.Y.), a Columbia freshman and 2012 Cadet World silver medalist, finished just behind Massialas in seventh place. Fencing 2013 Junior World medalist Francesca Palumbo (ITA), Taffel lost her quarter-final bout, 15-5.

Dubrovich took an 11-9 win in the quarters over Kristina Samsonova (RUS) and defeated Alexeeva, 15-8, in the semifinals.

In the gold medal final, Dubrovich face Palumbo in a rematch of their quarter-final from the 2013 Junior Worlds where Palumbo kept Dubrovich from winning an individual medal.

This time, Dubrovich kept the bout close and held the Italian to a 3-3 tie at the end of regulation. In the sudden death overtime period, it was Dubrovich who scored first to win the bout, 4-3, and take gold.
