(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – USA Fencing is pleased to announce that Grant Jones (Colorado Springs, Colo.) has been promoted to the newly created role of director of development.

Jones, who joined the USA Fencing staff as the manager of sports performance in May, will be responsible for leading and generating USA Fencing’s philanthropic initiatives. In his new role, Jones will oversee annual and planned giving, development campaigns, major gifts and special events for current, new and prospective donors.

“I'm excited to have Grant transition to his new position as the director of development. Grant’s skillset is an excellent match for the position and I'm looking forward to working with him to build our philanthropic giving efforts,” said USA Fencing Executive Director Kris Ekeren (Littleton, Colo.)

Jones came to USA Fencing from Columbia University where he was instrumental in raising more than $5 million for the University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons.

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to lead and expand philanthropic gifting for USA Fencing,” Jones said. “While working in sports performance, I have enjoyed getting to know many members of the fencing family and I have seen first-hand how passionate our membership is about supporting each other and Team USA’s athletes. I’m looking forward to building on relationships with our members, board of directors and the United States Fencing Foundation and know together we’ll be able to make a significant impact on our sport.”

Originally from Oklahoma City and a former gymnast, Jones earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma in 2005, followed by a master’s degree in metabolic and nutritional human biology from Columbia University in 2007.

Jones begins his new position this week and can be reached at G.Jones@usfencing.org
