(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – On the heels of sweeping the individual titles in the women’s saber events at the Veteran World Championships in Limoges, Team USA ended the tournament with a gold medal in the women’s team event.

The win was the 18th podium finish of the week for the Americans – a new record at the Vet Worlds for Team USA.

All three individual gold medalists – Lydia Mazorol (Simi Valley, Calif. / 50-59), Jane Eyre (Swedesboro, N.J. / 60-69) and Ellen O’Leary (Decatur, Ga. / +70) returned for the team event where they were joined by 2012 Vet World silver medalist Chaz Smith (Placerville, Calif. / 50-59), 2015 Vet World bronze medalist Jude Offerle (Winnetka, Ill. / 60-69) and two-time Vet World Team member Diane Hiatt (Sparks, Nev.)

The Americans won three of four pool bouts with their only loss coming to Germany by a 30-29 score.

The two teams would face off again in the gold medal final where Team USA took the win, 30-24.

In the men’s epee competition, Team USA won both of its pool bouts and claimed the third seed in the table of 16 after wins against Great Britain, 14-13, and Australia, 30-17. The Americans lost to Russia, however, in the quarters by a 30-19 score and finished fifth overall.
