Dennis Kraft Wins Oslo Men’s Epee Satellite Tournament

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Fencing on the senior international circuit for just the second time, Dennis Kraft (Colorado Springs, Colo.) won gold at the Oslo Men’s Epee Satellite Tournament in Norway on Oct. 31.

Kraft was one of just two U.S. fencers to enter the event which is a point qualifier for individual slots at the 2016 Olympic Games.

Kraft earned a bye into the table of 64 after a 4-1 finish in the pool rounds and won his first direct elimination bout, 15-8, against Uwe Kirschen (GER).

After a 15-9 win against Adam Larsson (SWE), Kraft edged Sturla Torkildsen (NOR), 15-14, to qualify for the quarter-finals where he defeated Filip Broniszewski (POL), 15-9.

With a medal guaranteed, Kraft defeated 2008 Olympic team silver medalist Radoslaw Zawrotniak (POL), 15-12, in the semis.

In the gold medal final, Kraft was tied at 14 with Bartosz Piasecki (NOR), but scored a single to take the win, 15-14.

Ben Bratton (New York City, N.Y.), a 2012 Senior World Team Champion, also fenced in Oslo and dominated his pool rounds, winning all six bouts and giving up no more than two touches to any of his opponents.

As the top seed in the direct elimination rounds, Bratton controlled his table of 64 bout against Joao Pereira (BRA) for a 15-3 win, but lost to Michal Adamek (POL), 15-13, in the table of 32 to finish in 17th place.
