(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Beginning Monday, December 17, 2018, the USA Fencing Referee Exam and the Referee Wheelchair Exam will be located in the USA Fencing Store found at Member.USAFencing.org.
The exams are available to those interested in becoming a USA Fencing referee as well as athletes, parents and other members of the fencing community. A USA Fencing profile is required to purchase either exam. After the exam is purchased, the user will receive an email with his or her complete log-in information.
The cost of the Referee Exam is $25 and includes access to four tests: the General Rules Exam and the exams specific to each weapon. The Referee Wheelchair Exam is separate and costs $25.

To pass the Referee Exam, individuals must pass the General Rules Exam and at least one weapon-specific exam. The General Rules Exam has 60 multiple choice questions and a time limit of 90 minutes; each weapon-specific exam has 30 multiple choice questions and a 60 minute time limit.
The Referee Wheelchair Exam has 30 multiple choice questions and a 60 minute time limit.
For both exams, a passing score is 90 percent or better.
The exams may be taken as many times as needed during the registration period, which lasts 48 hours. It is encouraged that all weapon exams are taken during the registration period as individuals will be required to pay the fee again to take additional weapon exams at a later date.
To referee at a USA Fencing sanctioned event, all individuals must hold a current USA Fencing membership. In addition, referees who are 18 years of age or older must have purchased the +CheckEd Add-On and have successfully completed SafeSport training and a background screen.
