Miles Chambers earned one of six gold medals awarded on the final day of the 2023 National Championships and July Challenge, also known as Summer Nationals.

PHOENIX, Ariz. — On the final day of the 2023 National Championships and July Challenge, six final gold medals were awarded to young, and hungry competitors. While the hunger to win shined bright in their winning medals, keeping calm, a dominant theme among our young national champions.

Miles Chambers fenced his way through the Y-10 Men’s Saber competition all the way to the top of the medal stand earning gold and the National Championship. After he “calmed down” he dominated his way to gold.

After earning his medal, his coaches from Tim Morehouse Fencing pointed out he was the first Y-10 Men’s Saber participant to win the National Championship. Chambers reflected on that moment and representing his club in such a spectacular way, “ Me and Tim envisioned me being up on stage and it happened. It feels good to be able to represent my club and have my name on the back of my jersey while I performed so well. I am happy to be able to have this experience and go down in history for my club.”

Eiry Du claimed the Division III Women’s Epee National Championship and gold medal. The key to her success was staying calm in between bouts and leaning on her support system. She specifically referenced that she was “texting my friends, and having them boost up my confidence.  There was “just a lot of excitement and joy” when she realized she had earned the final touch to secure her gold medal.

There was a lot of excitement to end the day as Joanna Wang earned her National title in Y-10 Women’s Foil. She had a massive fan club cheering her on throughout her championship bout, “it felt amazing” as she reflected on how much support she had. She “practiced hard and had my parents supporting me with the best coach” to get her to the medal stand.
