Seth Kelsey Places 18th at Heidenheim Epee World Cup

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Two-time Olympian Seth Kelsey (Colorado Springs, Colo.) advanced to the table of 32 at the Heidenheim Epee World Cup in Germany on Saturday.
 
As the #5 seed, Kelsey won his first bout against Raphael Steinberger (GER), 15-7.
 
In the next round, 2009 World Champion Anton Avdeev (RUS) led the bout, 14-7, but Kelsey made a comeback late in the final minute, scoring four unanswered points in 11 seconds to bring the score to 14-11. With one second on the clock, a double touch was called and Avdeev won the bout, 15-12. Kelsey finished 18th overall.
 
In a 263-person field, Kelsey was the only U.S. athlete to qualify for the table of 64 as his teammates were eliminated in the pools and preliminary tables on Friday.
 
Competition concludes on Sunday with the team event in which Kelsey will join with Soren Thompson (New York City, N.Y.), Alexander Tsinis (Little Neck, N.Y.) and Benjamin Bratton (New York City, N.Y.) as the #3 seeded team at the World Cup.
