Sam Moelis, Jarred Gou and Tessa Wells are presented with their scholarship award by Amanda and Curt Ronning from Absolute Fencing Gear.

Congratulations to the 263 fencers who have been named to the 2013-14 USA Fencing and Absolute Fencing Gear All-Academic Team.

USA Fencing and Absolute Fencing Gear partnered for the fourth straight year to recognize young fencers who have excelled in high school with All-Academic Team honors.

All-Academic Team members were honored during a ceremony in Columbus, Ohio on June 30.

Athletes with a GPA of at least 3.85 were named to the First All-Academic Team. Second Team athletes included those whose GPAs were 3.7 – 3.84. Athletes with 3.5 – 3.69 GPAs were recognized on the Honorable Mention Team.

The All-Academic Team members represent 36 states and 143 fencing clubs from across the United States. Los Angeles International Fencing Center (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Salle D’Asaro (Torrance, Calif.) placed more student athletes on the team than any other program in the nation with each club placing eleven athletes on the list.

The $1,000 scholarship winners based on their essay submission are:

Tessa Wells, a junior from Framingham Public High School in Framingham, Mass. Tessa has been fencing for three years and is a member of Boston Fencing Club.

This year’s $4,000 scholarship winners based on their GPA and submitted essay are:
