2022-2023 Selection Criteria

Selection criteria for the 2022 Pan American Youth and Veteran Championships, held Aug. 22–26 in Lima, Peru, have now been posted. A maximum of six athletes may be registered per delegation, in each category.

The registration deadline for this event is 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on July 18.

The Fencing Qualification Manual for the 2024 Olympic Games can be found HERE. Selection criteria for the event will be published in the coming months.

The 2023 Pan American Games will be held in Santiago, Chile October 20-November 5, 2023. The Qualification Manual for Fencing can be found HERE. Selection criteria for the event will be published soon.

March 29, 2022

Full selection criteria for the 2022-23 international season will be released in the coming weeks. In the meantime, please be advised of the following urgent notes concerning team selection for 2022-23:

2023 Senior World and Zonal Championships

  • For men's foil only, the final two Designated Senior events of the 21/22 season (Plovdiv + Seoul/Incheon) will count for selection to the 2023 Senior World and Zonal Championship Teams. If either or both event(s) is canceled, it will not be replaced with an alternate event(s) from the 21/22 season. To clarify, Plovdiv and Seoul/Incheon will count for both the 2022 and 2023 Senior Men's Foil World and Zonal Championship Teams.
  • See table below for World Championships results that will count for 2023.
  • For all weapons, the Div I events at the 2022 Summer Nationals/July Challenge will count for rolling points only.

2023 Cadet & Junior World Championships

  • For women's saber only, the final two Designated Senior events of the 21/22 season (Tunis/Hammemet & Padua) will count for selection to the 2023 Cadet & Junior Women's Saber World Championship Team. If either or both event(s) is canceled, it will not be replaced with an alternate event(s) from the 21/22 season.
  • See table below for World Championships results that will count for 2023.
  • As a reminder, the Division I, Junior and Cadet events at the April 2022 (Charlotte, NC) National Championships and NAC will count for rolling points only for all junior and cadet weapons.
  • For all weapons, the Div I, Junior and Cadet events at the 2022 Summer Nationals/July Challenge will count for rolling and team points.

March 10, 2022

  • The Division I, Junior and Cadet events at the April 2022 (Charlotte, NC) National Championships and NAC will count for rolling points only for all junior and cadet weapons.

2021-2022 International Selection Criteria

2022 World University Games

The World University Games (WUGs) will be held June 26-July 7, 2022 in Chengdu, China. Eligibility requirements are a follows:

  • Athletes must be currently registered in a university/college program
  • Incoming freshmen are eligible
  • Athletes must be between 18-26 years of age as of December 31, 2022

The WUGs fencing competition will be held June 27-July 2, 2022.

The cost of the event is estimated to be $2,820 PLUS airfare. This price includes ground transportation, Team USA WUGs apparel, 10 night stay in the athlete village and three meals a day in the village. Final pricing information will be sent after the selection date (March 21, 2022) and all fees must be paid within one week of selection. Prior to registration, interested athletes should speak to their college coaches and/or administrators regarding the event.

*Please note the event overlaps with the 2022 USA Fencing Summer National Championships and July Challenge.

Registration is now available. The registration deadline is March 21, 2022. There will be no late entry deadline for this event. Four athletes per weapon will be selected based on the details outlined in section 4.2.1 (Senior Events) of the Athlete Handbook.

2021-22 Satellite Events

Online Registration is now available for 2021-22 season FIE Satellite events. Only events which have not been canceled by the local organizing committee are available for registration. The schedule is subject to change and further events may be canceled.
